And the funny thing is, anything under MS69 for modern, non-circulating gold is unacceptable. Those coins will be cracked and resubmitted, there is no market for sub MS69 modern gold.

I recently bought a bulk of PCGS MS68 ASE's at a coin show. The flaws on these are pretty apparent when you study them closely: Two to three minor nicks in the fields, and/or one or two minor contact marks on the devices which would mean these were graded accurately per ANA guidelines I think.
I compare them to the many slabbed PCGS, NGC, and ICG ASE's I own in MS69 and on some of those I am hard pressed to find any flaws at all. I think for MS69 technically any flaws that show must be in the fields away from prime focal areas, two maximum, and there again they must only appear under magnification. In any case it's minutae I don't concern myself 2 much with. Slabbed bullion is kinda gay.:bear_wub:

This is done a lot with pre-1933 coins, too. It's called, "The crack-out game". The more things change the more they stay the same. I have done it, at least, ten times and I'm small potatoes...

It's usually done with coins that have a huge jump in price between lets say a MS63 and a MS64 - and the coin cracked out is in fact a MS 63. There is a trick to this game and it's called LUCK!

Luck indeed, but you stack the odds in your favor by cracking out coins in old holders, since the grading standards for most coins were stricter back then.

Absolutely, but most of them have already been sought out, and are sold at a premium just for the upgrade possibility. Now, you as the buyer, are left with the choice, crack it out and possibly loose the grade to a lower one, maybe even damage the coin upon breakage (I know of at least one NGC grader who looks for plastic splinters on any coin he thinks may have been cracked out and grades it HARSHLY if he finds one, just one!!!). Or re-submit the coin in its original holder and have them crack it out - very small chance they will up-grade it like that, just have to trust my experience on that...

NGC & PCGS need to stay in business, and they know those 68's will be re-submitted eventually - Job Security! Today's 68's are the Green Holder Rattlers of yesteryear. Unless of course, the 68 grade is grossly obvious!

In my opinion, the UHR is the only modern numismatic coin, and the grading companies have to start setting up the future market now. I have a funny feeling that once the UHR production stops, you will see a decline in 70's, a lot of 69's, and many more 68's.

Me, myself, I would crack out the 68 and plop it right back into the US MINT plastic holder and back into the original box it would go, ready for sale!

I WONDER WHAT PCGS CENSUS is? HINT HINT HINT?

I keep checking the PCGS Pop page, but it has been blank every time. Once the numbers come up, I'll post.

Advice... Which do I send my three UHR's into??? I was thinking... NGC because of the slight tiny chance at a Proof-like (And probably a better chance at a 70), but PCGS always commands a higher resale... In addition, I have around 100+, RAW, 1996 BU SAE's. A PCGS Bulk submission is 10 smacks for the new sealed mint tube service and then ten more for each UHR. If I do a PCGS bulk submission I can get the SAE's and UHR's slabbed for almost the same amount as if I sent in the three UHR's alone. What say you? NGC or PCGS.

Do what you feel is right. I see that the prices are about the same at

http://www.moderncoinmart.com

last time I looked. MS70s....

I got screwed by PCGS last time and they lied to me about the submission tickets for losing my coins for two months - 11 Saints - 4 were MS65s! :111::111:

I just looked and they are OUT of NGC but they still have PCGS - maybe they are losing their unfair advantage??????
